In 2002, CNN announced it would offer CNN in Arabic via the launch of CNNArabic.com and its Dubai bureau. CNN would offer its global newsgathering in Arabic for an Arab audience worldwide. The CNN Dubai bureau would have its headquarters in the Middle East and would work alongside its four other bureaus in the region: Cairo, Jerusalem, Beirut and Baghdad. CNNArabic.com would be the sixth local language Web site alongside CNN's Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Danish offerings.

CNN in Arabic would enable CNN to reach native Arab language speakers. It would offer Arabic speaking audiences around the world regionally relevant news content in Arabic. CNN in Arabic would demonstrate CNN’s commitment to the Middle Eastern market. Caroline Faraj was selected as the editor of CNNArabic.com and took this position after her post as senior political editor with Al Rai, the leading Arabic daily newspaper in Jordan.

The Dubai bureau and CNN in Arabic would draw on CNN's worldwide newsgathering resources of 42 bureaus and 900 affiliates worldwide, with region-specific editorial coming from CNN's bureau across the Middle East.

At the end of the day, CNN in Arabic was well received by the Arab community around the world. It highlighted to the Arab community that it was necessary to deliver the news in an objective fashion and in a language that resonated with the Arab community.
